Cargo hold checkpoints

During these inspections, only the designated passageways and the space between bumpers should be used (never walk between the vehicles).

The inspections (and their findings) should be entered in the vessel's logbook.

Non-conformities are to be reported back to the OPERATORS representative / Port & Cargo Operations.

Items to be focused on during inspections:

  1. Missing lashing on units, or too few lashings.
  2. Loose lashing.
  3. Incorrect lashing.
  4. Lashing touching the ship's structures.
  5. Missing rubber wedges to be fitted for units which require having these fitted, i.e. fixed ramps, athwartships stowage etc.
  6. Oil leakage from other cargo such as gearboxes etc.
  7. Gastight door, watertight door, passage door and other access hatch cover and movable ramp for fire compartment must be closed at all times.
  8. Inflammable gas must be exhausted from the car deck by ventilating for gas free every day if weather permits.
  9. Moisture and bilge should be cleared from the car deck.
  10. Vessel pipes, structures and wire ropes need to be checked for oil and grease leakage.
  11. Pipes and valves should be inspected for ballast water leakage.
  12. Unusual smells or noises need to be investigated.
