A standard set up for portable lashing equipment has been established for all vessels based on their capacity, configuration, and trade. This equipment should mainly be used on board and used to unitise cargo ashore.
Lashing equipment considered as standard equipment or re-usable equipment is purchased and supplied by the BB & Global equipment when required.
The local office must report all usage, supply and disposal of standard equipment, including unitizing equipment and appointed supplier items, in the lashing module in EMS (Equipment Management System).
All vessels shall submit quarterly inventory controls and requests for extra lashing through EMS to ensure there is a cost-effective supply and enough equipment on board.
As a rule, RoRo vessels and PCTCs/PCCs must each conduct quarterly inventory controls or as requested. During the inventory control, all damaged and worn-out lashing material to be taken aside and reported as scrap in EMS.
Vessel is responsible for careful storage, safe handling and prevention of lashing equipment damage and theft.
Vessel supply requirements must be sent via EMS to BB and Global equipment at least 2–3 weeks before ETA North Europe.
In case of emergency delivery of equipment, the Master or Chief Officer shall sign the delivery receipt for the equipment. The following qualifies as an emergency: Without this equipment a particular piece of cargo will be left behind, or this equipment is needed to ensure a safe and quality minded cargo operation.
Reusable dunnage should be collected and reused until it is damaged and unusable.
The recycling of damaged/useless dunnage should be handled according to the vessels garbage management per Owners Environmental policy.
To avoid operational delays resulting from discrepancies in lashing material quantities, onboard vessels are required to report the actual and accurate quantity of lashing materials promptly.
Please check the Vessel lashing standards for this requirement.
