Battery cable disconnection procedure

  1. Loading Port (Disconnection operation)
    1. After parking onboard, the loading vessel, the driver pulls hood lever before leaving from the car (Driver)
    2. Carefully open the hood and check the position of battery (Stevedore). If a unit does not have the battery located under the hood, there might be an instruction from the shipper where to locate the battery.
    3. If battery is not located under the hood, locate the battery accordingly for disconnection.
    4. Disconnect battery minus pole (-) cable and put a insulated cover on the battery terminal (Technician)
    5. Carefully take down the hood until it latches locked (Not fully closed) (Stevedore or Technician)
    6. Put a placard on the windshield for indicating disconnection of battery and location of the battery in case it is not under the hood. (Stevedore or Technician)
    7. Disconnection operation should be carried out in presence with deck crew and fire extinguisher.
    8. If a battery is placed in other area on the unit than under the hood, appropriate information to POD is to be displayed on the unit.

Exception:

  • Any motor vehicle with function to switch off the main battery is exempted from the manual disconnection.
  • When a used unit needs power for safety reasons. (AFV vehicles)
